INFRASTRUCTURE & INDUSTRY

The "Infrastructure & Industry" route demonstrates the transformation of Stadtallendorf's economy and industry. The section depicting the old village showcases the original economy, agriculture, which shaped the lives of the people in Allendorf for centuries. The section south of the railway tracks describes the expansion of the Main-Weser Railway and the resulting rise in importance of Stadtallendorf, as well as the selection of Allendorf as Germany's central explosives factory site during the Nazi era. You can learn about the structure and function of the explosives factories. How were the production buildings constructed, and where were the bombs transported? At another station, you will learn what became of the explosives factories after World War II and how the Hesse Plan strengthened Stadtallendorf's development. You will discover why many old buildings are still standing today and how the economy developed from a wartime to a civilian economy.
